Shahi Mosque

Shahi Mosque belongs to the period of Mehtar Shuja-ul-Mulk and was built in the 1920s. Its location near the fort joins two expressions of royal patronage: the residence of political authority and a major place of worship. The decorated facade, minarets and courtyard make it a distinctive landmark in Chitral town.

The mosque is also a living religious space. Its history should be read alongside the broader story of Chitral after 1895, when the Mehtar’s government continued under British protection.
